The platform blind is finished. I'ld like to call this my Upside Down Blind due to the fact that the blind usually goes up top on a tower stand. But I like open air hunting more than blinds. What in your blind? Leave it in comments!

JonesFamilyTravels.com Tim had the opportunity to travel to Mason County, Texas to hunt for whitetail deer during opening week. It was an amazing trip!! Mason County is in the Texas Hill Country, right next to Gillespie County (the county with the highest whitetail deer population in the entire United States!). Texas Hill Country is absolutely beautiful and the deer hunting was awesome, as well. Between 3 hunters, a deer was taken on almost every hunt. Tim got his first buck, an 8 point, on opening day during the afternoon hunt. He followed it up with a doe taken from a Ghillie suit!! Tim got this doe from less than 30 yards away with no cover using a chair and a tripod along with the Ghillie suit! An amazing experience!! On day two, Tim took a shot at a hog that had been eating all the deer's corn and proceeded to chase the deer away. That was the last straw and the shot chased everything away. Tim wasn't able to find the hog, but could hear it moaning and groaning in the woods as it took it's last breath. One less pest in the Texas Hill Country. Later on the same hunt, the stand had turkey, deer, and cows all milling around and eating. It was a Mutual of Omaha type experience that made for an excellent hunt, in spite of not getting a deer. The hunt camp cabin was a truly rustic experience, this year as we were without electricity, a gas stove, or water for the entire trip. I was hunting in Alvin Texas when a big bad boar weighing 408 pounds came to taste the sweet corn (the pigs around it weigh 100 pounds and less) . In return he got a 7.62x54 custom loaded lapua bullet, shot from a Mosin Nagant into him. The young pigs did not run very far because they saw that their protector was still under the feeder, and they came back a few seconds after the first shot. Thinking that the big boar would bleed to death, my brother shot at one of the smaller pigs, which were hiding behind the tree, and the boar pushed through the mud, and stopped right next to the recently shot pig. While we were reloading the rifle, the boar snuck into the forest unseen. We could not find a blood trail, from all of the mud that the smart boar put in his wound to stop the bleeding, but we were listening to know which way he went. He would run in the forest without a sound, and when he fell, and tried to get back on his feet, he would snap branches and rustle leaves, so we followed him like this for about 100 yards in thorns and mud, and when we found him, he staggered directly across our path and I pulled the trigger just in time and he dropped in front of my feet, but it was not enough, for he was already struggling to stand up. I quickly shot again and this time the bullet hit him in the head and he dropped like a rock.

The final hunt of the year in Texas for us ya'll. I took Caleb out and let him do the hunting. He takes a doe with a perfect head shot at about 100 yds. He aimed for the center of the head, LOL, he got an eye. This is his second hunt of the year and the 4th large game animal that he has harvested. Its the first time he has ever shot my .270 Stevens made by Savage. Sorry for the poor footage. I had to film thru my binoculars and lost quality. I'll be eating my tags!!!
